Silent movie with live big band soundtrack
Composer: Frank Vaganée
Director: Frank Vaganée
"Piccadilly" is a unique multimedia production: a combination of silent movie accompaigned with a live performed new composed big band soundtrack.
The English full-length film "Piccadilly" is a film noir that was shot even before the term was used.
It plays in London's dazzling jazz-age night life. This is one of the last silent films made in the
United Kingdom. "Piccadilly" stands out from other British film productions because of its atypical bombastic passion and the subtle way it raises the racial issue and social taboos.
The Asian actress, Anna May Wong, plays the most impressive part of her career and subsequently developed into a cult actress. Her exotic beauty has remained as enchanting as almost eighty years ago.
Frank Vaganée composed a sparkling soundtrack for "Piccadilly". He uses the big band's full strength but, in addition, he also gives opportunities to smaller ensembles in the orchestra to achieve additional variations in its timbre.
"Piccadilly" was originally commissionned by the Brussels Jazz Orchestra.
